What is 1:World?

The mission of the 1:World initiative is to equip our learners with the tools and environment necessary to spark a cutting-edge educational experience. Through personalized learning, students will be able to explore content through different lenses, approach learning in multiple ways, engage in collaborative experiences and take ownership of their learning. This paradigm shift will begin with a Chromebook for each child in a 1:World classroom combined with the use of Google Apps for Education (GAFE) and other online resources. But 1:World is more than putting technology in kids’ hands; it’s a shift in thinking and instruction that redefines the classroom experience.

Insurance Enrollment

Insurance enrollment is required for Chromebook take-home privileges. Enrollment is $30 per participating child. Please contact your building principal for financial assistance. There is a $25 deductible for each claim. Please follow these directions to enroll in the insurance plan. Additional information can be found here. 

Digital Citizenship at Home

North Shore School District 112 believes in empowering students to make smart decisions, use devices appropriately and to become responsible, digital citizens at school and home. Collaborative Tools

North Shore School District 112 is a Google Apps for Education (GAFE) district. Google Apps for Education is a set of free tools that provide opportunities for students and staff to collaborate. Students can create, share and manage documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings and more with classmates in real-time. All work is saved in “the cloud”, a secure online storage, and can be accessed from anywhere, anytime, including offline. The GAFE suite is an important tool in the 21st century learner’s toolbox.  Learners will have access to online textbooks, online sources and other tools to support their learning. Essentially, the Internet replaces the textbook, and provides real-time information and resources.
